Essence of Football - Jamal Musiala

September 30, 2022

“With his dribbling technique, he is reminds us of the greatest football players of all time, such as Pele, Maradona or Messi. However, we only compare his dribbling skills with the greatest players in world football”.
This is a quote from our article that we wrote about Jamal Musiala about 1 year ago, on September 24th, 2021. Today we present the first of 4 videos entitled Essence of Football. Jamal Musiala’s dribbling are reminiscent of the greats: Pele, Maradona, Messi. But can he ever trully reach their level? We hope that Germany national coach Hansi Flick, who also helped shape Jamal Musiala’s development in the Bayern team, will continue to find the opportunity to develop his strengths. Even more important is his daily coach Julian Nagelsman, who is not only responsible for the tactical tasks and their connections. The coach is also decisive in the technical components that should be trained, such as dribbling, shooting techniques, ball feeling, etc. If we observe the other good former dribblers in the Bayern team like Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry, then we realize that that the two have practically lost their skills and can no longer retrieve them when they need them. Kingsley Coman has been playing in 1-on-1 situations at a high level in the team for years. One could say that he was able to develop and improve his dribbling skills even further.
What does this mean for Jamal Musiala? From our point of view, he shouldn’t do without the previous approaches. Especially the “dribbling training”!!!. Of course it should be adapted to the tactical constraints that are needed. We would also advise Jamal to continue developing his shooting technique more. He seems to be on the right track. Unfortunately, he is missing a good shot, which would certainly allow him to score many more goals. That would be, for example, learning the “banana shot technique” from the right foot. His former colleague Robert Lewandowski showed that this technique can be learned and used to win matches. It’s not a static technique, like the free kick, when the ball doesn’t move, but a match winning technique. The“ banana shot technique” would give him the most opportunities to create danger in front of the opponent’s goal.
